Myth busting cybersecurity — EDCF/CICAE collaboration
In June, the EDCF partnered with CICAE — the network of European arthouse cinemas — on a virtual workshop dedicated to cybersecurity, helping independent venues navigate a topic that can often feel daunting. EDCF President Cathy Huis in 't Veld-Esser and Barry de Bruin (Pathé Netherlands, also a member of the EDCF) shared practical advice, demystified the jargon and busted common myths about digital safety in cinemas.
Key takeaways included treating cybersecurity as a people issue rather than a purely technical one, recognising that smaller venues are just as exposed as large operators, and identifying weak spots in your systems before someone else does. Most importantly, improving security doesn't require a big budget: staff awareness, strong passwords, multifactor authentication and a printed emergency plan already go a long way.
